Jerelyn’s first day at SOHYR was over two years ago on what we affectionately call “Gravel Day” because we unloaded several dump trucks of gravel by hand. You see, we needed the gravel to cover the muddy areas on the back of the barn before Bluegrass and Burgers. The truck driver assured us he could drive right to the muddy area and “dump ’n drive” which would leave a path of gravel that would fix our problem. Unfortunately, he was wrong….and Bluegrass and Burgers was the very next weekend! So, we all grabbed shovels, buckets, and rakes to begin doing the task by hand. Sweet Jerelyn had an appointment for volunteer training that morning, but was instead handed a shovel and asked to help with the gravel. Being a good sport, she flashed that smile, jumped right in, and hasn’t looked back since. Last summer when Jerelyn decided to return to college to pursue a nursing degree and was looking for flexible employment, we jumped at the chance to have her as our volunteer coordinator. We knew it would be a temporary phase in her life, but were grateful for whatever time she could offer. Please join us in wishing Jerelyn the best of luck as she moves into a new job that will benefit her nursing studies. She will be missed, but promises to volunteer often!
