Where is Spirit of Hope located?
We are located on Hwy 109 in Wilsonville, AL - just fifteen minutes off Hwy 280.

What style of riding does Spirit of Hope teach?
Horses can teach us many things even if we never sit on their backs. Our main goal is not necessarily to teach children how to ride; our main goal is to give the children an opportunity to experience the unconditional love of a horse to help restore their hope. If a participant does return to the ranch often enough to learn to ride, we will teach them in whatever manner best suits the horse.

Who is the riding instructor?
Missy Cox is our riding instructor and has over thirty years of experience as an accomplished equestrian. Volunteers with appropriate training will assist Missy in safely working with the children and horses.

What should participants and volunteers wear?
Participants should wear hard soled shoes or boots with a smooth bottom. We will provide boots if a participant does not have appropriate shoes. A helmet is also required and will be provided. Volunteers may wear any type of closed shoe, but boots are encouraged. Sandals or steel toed boots are not allowed for volunteers. Participants must wear long pants when riding and volunteers are asked to wear long pants unless it is extremely hot.

Is it safe?
There is always an inherent risk in any equine activity, but we have taken steps to ensure that our program meets standards and is as safe as possible.
