Hi my name is Morgan Smith, and I live in Georgia. This past February I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Spirit of Hope Youth Ranch through a mission trip with my best friend's church. While we were there, I celebrated my 15th birthday by painting ceilings, walls, and trim in the office building. Before the trip, my grandmother offered me the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean, but I decided to go to Alabama instead. Now that I reflect on the trip, I definitely made the right choice.
On that Thursday (my birthday), we were bummed at first because it was raining cats and dogs, and we were unable to accomplish everything that was desired. However, we got to see God's hand at work. Instead of building fences like planned, we were able to help one of Joy's friends who was mourning the loss of her grandmother that very day. So we helped her set up for a horse clinic that was scheduled to occur that weekend to benefit SOHYR. We swept, set up tables, and best of all we got to groom horses. This trip truly changed my life, and I'm glad I got to participate. I really hope to be involved with the Spirit of Hope Youth Ranch in the future.
